Stock Sprites already have a pretty stiff rear end because the stiff leaf
springs provide a lot of roll resistance in comparison to the softer front
springs. In stock form with no front bar (my b66 for instance) they will
get
pretty tail-happy. The front bar tames that a bit.
Panhard rods and watts linkages help to locate the rear axle, which
decreases the amount the rear end wants to steer the car in various
directions by
helping the generally floppy (as locating devices) rear leaf springs. The
leaf
springs are pretty good in a fore aft direction, but bad in side to side.
The panhard or watts greatly improve side to side location. This makes to
car
much more predictable in cornering, particularly in the transitions of
turn-in and corner exit.
My two cents - Tutone
