I put the car on the street at night, lights on and adjust until they 
look about right, drive around a little to check them out.
Then pull in front of the garage door to see if they are both about the 
same height.

Not sure on the original bonnet handle but when I use a trunk handle, 
it's a bit too long so I put a spring over the square bar and a washer 
under the screw. The spring holds it all from rattling. On the Holy 
Sprite I used a clutch slave cyl spring simply because it was handy and 
it fit.
