List,
That Nextengine brand 3D scanner is extremely reasonable at 3K although
unfortunately a small unit. I priced one for my school in September and fell
off my chair as their cheapest one is over 30K although handheld for all the
large parts. Our schools 3D printer (powder type) cost 25K and it was the
cheapest on the market, a gallon of powder and a gallon of bonder cost's
almost 5K. Needless to say we only use it for special projects. They also
sold us the hardener which was 12oz for $500. which is needed after the
product is made to keep it from breaking but that product has a shelf life
of 12 months so if you can get a deal on several bottles it will go bad
before you can use it. Just like 2D color inkjet printers for home use they
get you by selling the consumables at inflated prices. This powder and
bonding agent does not look like anything more than plaster with silicone
and a mild liquid glue but at 25K I can't afford to experiment with other
consumables but I sure would like to because 5K is just crazy. The one way I
was able to cut costs was to buy 2 part epoxy glue to replace the $500. a
bottle final stage hardner. I'm experimenting with some kind of single stage
epoxy paints this year.
