Derf, you either aren't paying attention or you are incapable of
understanding. Bill is in the business of buying and selling cars and
parts. As a favor to the list, he posted a deal from another person. He,
personally, expects nothing in return. Got it?

I buy my parts from a member of this list. Even though he is also a friend,
I fully expect to pay what anybody else pays. That is his business. That
is how he puts food on his family's table. He has overhead that he must
meet in order to keep selling auto parts. Unlike others, he freely offers
advice to the list and doesn't use the list as a sales flyer.

If you come to me seeking my professional services, you will pay dearly.
That is how I earn my living. I don't give it away. I have tens of
thousands of dollars of business expenses that I must cover before I make a
profit. On the other hand, I have mailed parts to listers for free and paid
the postage myself. But auto parts isn't my business. Clear?

Not claiming superiority.
Just didn't like the way the proposition was submitted.
I've been on this list a long time. I've given leads, given parts,
made parts, mailed parts, all for free. I have received stuff for
free.

"I know where something is. The guy wants X. If you buy it you
should feel morally obligated to pay guy #2 Z." just sounds cheesy.

Putting a potential buyer with a seller for the sake of helping other
spridgeteers is usually more in tune with the spirit of this list.

But, you can get in line with the other people who want to meet me in
an alley, or add me to your spam list.

"My friend knows where two Bugeyes can be had for $2000. He'll tell
you where for $200. If you don't buy them, you don't have to pay the
$200" sounds more straight forward and less like a used car salesman
to me.
