OK, gotta chime in here.  Honeymoon in Hawaii and I was driving a Mehari 
that had a metal coat-hanger like throttle linkage.  It had a bend to 
fit through the floorboard and the bend would catch on the slot in the 
floor.  Now WOT in a Mahari is not Lamborghini-esque but it does get 
ones attention.  Just reach down and pull the pedal back up at sedate 
65mph.  Fun vehicle though, wish I had one though I doubt it would be 
street legal.  Here's one like we drove:
