The 23D4 is historically desired by many because it is mechanical.
These were the cure for the problem of adding a side draft Weber that
didn't have vacuum provisions.  They are good for racing, IMHO.
For the street, however, a properly tuned vacuum advance distributor
is better.  With the vacuum advance comes better mileage.
I don't have experience with the 1-2-3 dizzys.  But, I have used
standard 1275 units, 23D4s, and modified Isuzu dizzys with varying
success.
Properly tuned is the key.  A properly tuned ____________ will work
better than (anything else not properly tuned).
I'd ebay the 23D4 and try a 1-2-3 or get something from someone who
specializes in tuning dizzys to make up something to fit the motor
specs.
