Hi Brian,
The thickness of a stock 1275 head is 2.750", and it should be the same for a 
1098 head. This is approximate because there has to be a production tolerance 
on the dimension, but I don't know what the tolerance is. I have measured 
several heads at 2.750" though. My guess is that the race prepped head would 
never be useful for the street, but it behooves you to do the CR math using 
your numbers to see what size dish you'd need, and you will have to measure the 
chamber volume, there's just no way around it. You could get lucky if the 
12.5:1 CR was calculated with flat top pistons. Are there any numbers stamped 
on the top of the head? Engine builders usually serialize heads and file the 
details.

The 1275 head I have is a 12g940, measures about 2.64 thick, if I'm measuring
correctly.
I believe it has been skimmed. 1.4 intakes 1.21 exhausts, and has been
ported.
A stock, as far as I know, 1098 head I have, measures 2.74 in thick.

I bought the 1275 head many years ago, but the guy told me it is a fairly
radical head, maybe giving a 12-12.5 compression ratio.

Too radical for a street head? Has been ported, intake and exhaust, not
sure if the combustion chambers have been shaped.

Any way to make it usable for a street car?
