Sounds like someone has been brainwashed. Inline six engines are nice,
but they have inherent issues, too. That is a mighty long and heavy
crankshaft with a lot of main bearings; hardly ideal design. It is a
tad heavier than the cast-iron SBC, too. As the old saying went, "Six
in a row won't go". Anyone care to compare the MGC GT to the MGB GT
V8? OK. yes they are great engines for tanks and trucks.

If you want anecdotal evidence, perhaps someone out there remembers
Rich Dagiel? Sadly, he died a few months ago, but in his day he did
drive for the Jaguar team long enough to get his hands on a Lister Jag
(BHL-112) in 1963. After racing it for a while with the original
Jag-6, he got rather frustrated with its ability to lunch the valves
and installed a smallblock Chevy using the Jag motor mounts. Lets just
say that Jaguar was not amused by the new speed he found with it.
