I'll throw in my 2 cents.

When you drain the old gas I would also drop the float bowls on the carbs
Clean them up, make sure the float valves work, and make sure the float
vents are clear.

If possible have an assistant watch over things while you attempt starting
to make sure you don't have any fuel leaking.

Having a fire extinguisher handy is good idea.
