My Pertronix finally bit the dust last Sunday.

On Saturday I had driven the Sprite to Kintnersville and back for
The Brit's on the Delaware gathering. Car ran great. It was 40 minute
drive there and back. Unfortunately, not a big turnout in Kintnersville.

At Kintnersville, a fellow with a yellow TR-3 mentioned a show in
Warminster, PA on Sunday, the next day. This is about 4 miles away from me.
I told him I'd meet him there.

On Sunday the car died about a mile away from the show. My brother was kind
enough to come haul me home.

I've been using the Pertronix to trigger the MSD unit I built earlier this
year. It's been a wonderful setup all summer. I've taken the car on many
long trips. Cold startup has awsome, I don't even have to run the choke.

It's only tonight that I got around to doing an autopsy to figure out what
broke. I was worried that the MSD unit is what broke, but it turned out to
be the Pertronix.

What I discovered is that in the distributor, the ground wire from the plate
that holds the points (or pertronix in my case) fatigued and broke from age.
That's apparently what killed the Pertronix, the loss of a good ground
connection.

Now I am in a quandary. Do I trigger with points or go and investigate
a Pertronix competitor like this http://tinyurl.com/29z43ot or this
