If you have just 2x4's going across and it is more that a one car wide, find
another 2x4 of similar length and nail or bolt it alongside the existing

Any come-along will do.

Throw a rope or cable over a rafter/joist/whatever in your garage and attach
the the other end of the come-along to it.

That will handle the weight of a complete engine and gearbox.
