Wo Buddy - That is not true.

People think TJ is worse then it really is as far as drug cartel.

There has always been a load of shops in Orange county.
I am not sure there is any more then ten years ago.

In the old days that was true.
We would bring thread & Stuffing from the USA.

My friend had a car painted & upholstered in TJ last summer.
We dropped the car off at the repair shop & got a price for the work.
No problem - We took the bus back after a few drinks in TJ.
A week later came back. The car was done inside & out.
The paint needed to be rubbed out. My friend said OK see you next weekend.
We partied again and took the bus home.
The next week end we drove a Mustang down - his daughter had crashed it.
It was white - They repaired the fender and painted the car electric pink.
We drove his car back looking like a new car.
He had two cars painted several years before and both paint jobs still look
great.
So some of the shops are still in the same place they have been for years.
They can still get the good paint in Mexico. There paint jobs are actually
better then So Cal.

My father had his 68 firebird done down there. They did an outstanding job of
duplicating the original color and patterns, but the quality of the thread and
vinyl was crappy. The job didn't last 3 years before it started to come apart
and discolor.

Now that Tijuana is virtually shut down due to the drug cartels, sounds like
some or many of the shops have moved up into Orange County and vicinity?

In high school, living in San Diego, guys used to take their 55, 56, 57
Chevys, and other types of cars, mostly Chevys down to TJ for the infamous
"Tuck n Roll" that could get done for cheap.

I had my 1960 VW done down there as well as my 1970 Datsun pickup truck. .
not in tuck n roll though.

The sewing machines that these guys used were so antiquated. . it was
amazing to see the work that they could get done with such crapped out tools
and such.
