A 1984 Honda CRX weighed 1713 lbs (about the same as a 1500 Midget).
A 2011 Honda Fit weighs 2479 lbs.

A 1984 Honda CRX base engine was rated at 60 hp.
A 2011 Honda Fit engine is rated at 117 hp.

A 1987 Honda CRX HF seated two people
A 2011 Honda Fit seats 4 people

A 1987 Honda CRX was rated by an Austrailian testing agency as "Poor" in
side impact protection
A 2011 Honda Fit recieved recieved the insurance institute "Good" rating
(it's highest category) in all aspects except front seat pelvis/leg
protection, where it received "acceptable" rating.

A 1987 Honda CRX 0-60 time was 13.7 seconds.
A 2011 Honda Fit 0-60 time is 8.9 seconds.

A Honda Fit has:
3 point safety harnesses in all positions with accident pre-tensioners
Dual stage multi-threshold driver and passenger front air bags
Front side air bags
Side curtain air bags
Anti lock brakes
electronic brake distribution
Vehicle stability assist
Traction control
Tire pressure monitors
day time running lamps
Air Conditioning
Power windows, power locks
cruise control
160 watt am/fm stereo with usb interface

A Honda CRX HF has, well, two seats, a steering wheel, a heater, and
windshield wipers. Radio and A/C were available as dealer installed options.
(A/C may have not been available for the HF model, I'm not sure)

1984 Honda CRX new price was $12,533, adjusted for inflation ($6149 in 1984)
2011 Honda Fit new MSRP is $15,100.

1985 Honda HF EPA rating as adjusted to the new standards: 37 City/46
Highway/41 Combined
2011 Honda Fit EPA rating 28 City/35 Highway/ 31 Combined.

Fuel use at 15,000 miles with 41 MPG Rating: 365 Gallons
Fuel use at 15,000 miles with 31 MPG Rating: 483 Gallons
Yearly cost difference at $3.00 per gallon: $354

I would say you couldn't sell a new CRX with no A/C, etc. etc. etc. for
$12,533 today, if it is only going to save you $29 a month in fuel
I think we have come a long way.
