I wonder how widespread the fuel pump issue really is.  I've been driving 
fuel-injected cars since the early 1980's and I've had 2 pumps replaced.  One I 
replaced in my old VW before 1985, the other was replaced in my 1985 Jetta 
under warranty.  I have not had a problem with the American cars I've owned 
since 1988.
