Larry - I used one of the kits I bought from Advance (about $15) a couple of
years ago. Don't remember the brand, but all it contained was some bits of wet
sand paper of two different grits, and a couple packets of what amounted to be
two levels of polishing compound. It worked really well, but you can
accomplish the very same thing by buying the materials yourself. For probably
about the same money, you could do 10 sets of headlights... This is what I'll
do next time I need to perform the process.

There was an episode of Gears
where Stacey David polished the headlights of some old car. He gave very
specific instructions on the paper used and the process. I think there may
be videos on his site (staceydavid.com) where you could watch it if you want
to look it up.

Don't forget to tape up any surrounding painted surfaces to
protect from the buffer and the sandpaper. He recommended putting on a coat of
wax afterward to help it last longer.

Have fun.

Restoration

Has anybody had any kind of experience with restoring plastic
headlight
lenses? Ibve seen all kinds of promises, but no real testimonials.
The New York Times had a short article on the subject whereby they seemed to
endorse the 3M product.

So... does anybody have any real-world
experience with this stuff? I have two
vehicles with bad lenses. One of
them, actually, is just terrible.
