Fusible links may be an answer, but they are usually made to length for
a specific application. But really, "Lucas Electrics" and "Safety" is
an oxymoron, like "Military Intelligence". You could use a fuse block
with more fuses or use in-line fuse holders for the major current drains
like headlights, blower motors, etc. I would STRONGLY suggest a battery
quick-disconnect that attaches between your terminal and the lead. They
are brass, available at most auto parts stores, and you don't need a
wrench nearby for a quick disconnect (good for storage to). A master
switch can be installed in the main batery run below the floorboards.
A special key sticks thru the floorboard and allows you to completely
disconnect the battery from everything while in the car. This also
counts as a theft deterrent with your insurance company, as will a
little switch on the Lucas fuel pump, but provides electrical safety as
well. A quick disconnect and a battery switch can both be sued, along
with the in-line fuse holders. Since your in California, both Pep Boys
and PAW carry these. BTW, in the 50's MG's motto was "Safety Fast", but
a small disclaimer was inserted into the owner's manual saying, in very
fine print, "Lucas Electrics Excepted" (;>
