One of my winter "restoration" projects that's almost complete is
the refinishing of the dash. I've laminated a new layer of walnut
burl veneer to the plywood backing and it has really turned out
nicely.

I'd like to thank Rob Kempinski for his Tech Tip on this subject. It
gave me valuable guidance on how to approach and prepare for the
task; I even ordered my veneer through Constantine's! The amazing
thing for me was how inexpensive it was to do. I didn't spend more
than $60 on materials and supplies; about half of that was spent
on materials just to produce the veneer press. It sure beats the $200
or more I'd spend on replacing it.

Now that the dash and instruments are refurbished, I wish I could
install them in the Tiger to admire. But, alas, the body is at least
another 4 to 6 months away from being ready to embrace the instrument
panel. It's the little victories along the long restoration road
that sustain one's interest and motivation.

Happy Tigering!
