I also has the same bolt snap. I tried center drilling in preparation for
the famed easy out. I didn't get the hole perfectly centered and gave up
before I broke something else. A local machine shop used a "easy-in" rather
than an easy-out. It just pushed the broken bolt into the crossmember and we
shook it out. This seemed like a more sensible solution because there was
approximatley 1" of extra thread on the bolt which would have to have been
pulled back through that threaded space. By screwing it in a lot of work
and possible damage was avoided. It was a new one on me, an "easy-in". It's
just an easy-out with the twist in the the opposite direction. Obviously
can't be used on a solid piece of metal, but when the piece is open on the
other side like our crossmember it's definitely worth considering.
