As Mark mentioned, a beautiful, former Lord Rootes winning Tiger was moved to
Washington from California. At the WSP Vehicle Inspection station, the
inspector said the ID tag had obviously been removed to paint the cowl. He
then asked where the owner wanted the state tag, drilled two holes, and
riveted the tag in the door jamb area. Makes me almost ill. The owner and I
have talked at length, and he is going to appeal to the WSP, as his Title is
also on hold for three years, I guess so they can make sure that no similar
cars are reported as stolen.

As we talked, we also discovered that CA. again had screwed up a Title, using
the wrong vin-they had omitted a number. As the car is a Mark II, the number
on the CA title is for a car that doesn't exist; the 382100003-99 numbers
were not assigned according to TIROST, yet that is in the range where CA
title shows this car's ID to be....And WA. just copied the CA.
info....sheesh. So another bit of fun for this poor owner to attempt to
rectify.

While I'd love to say that everyone in law enforcement loves car enthusiasts
(and a GREAT many do) there are possibly still many who don't care, are not
trained well enough, or don't understand. Please protect yourselves and your
property-make sure the documents are correct, and build supplemental
documentation, if only for insurance purposes. I successfully had my
registration/title fixed when I found a minor error, as have others.

Bad things can happen to nice cars.

This was not intended as a soapbox-rant, the situation in Washington was just
too unfortunate to ignore.

Gotta get to bed, get to pick up my 914 in the morning (and NO, this is NOT
the Tiger's replacement! <g>) It has a vin tag on the windshield.

Best wishes.
