Hi Tigers
I am glad to see that no one took the suggestion to heart thatthe non-regular
posters need to be taken off of this mailing list.I am a "lurker" mostly
because I am trying to get my car together and I have a variety of"honey-do"
tasks assigned to me by my better(?) half.I also work fulltime in a field that
is not automotive -related.I also seem to have an inordinate number of thumbs
while typing. This list is a VERY valuable source of info.
Nuff said, now to the problem at hand.
I started my Tiger project in december and pulled the engine and wiring
harness(and everything else) in early january. The shop that did the bodywork-
sandblasting and welding did an outstanding job-even if it took a little
longer than originally predicted(because there was more to do) and cost more
than budgeted. So I have been learning the finer points of auto painting hands
on.
The engine builder on the other hand did good work for me -to a point. He did
not want to finish the work that he started and I have heard all manner of
excuses for over 2 months.I now have a ready to assemble 30 over late
260(not the original motor, but JUST like it) that needs put together. Not a
short block(which would have been just fine) but a set of pistons, aset of conn
rods,a machined crank,a machined block, etc. So this brings me to my question(s)
1) Is there anything unique to the 260 that makes it different from a 302 or
289 in re-assembly that is not covered in a common how-to rebuild book (such
as Chilton or hayes) and would be a problem later?
2) With everything in this state is there something I could do (other than
camming) that would make the beastie perform better-say like early 302 heads
or somesuch that would offer good "bang for the buck" and is readily
available?
Thanks for your time.
Trying to turn a problem into an opportunity.
Tony
