The most important tool for harvesting metal Volvo fans from "pick
your part" yards is:
1. A 10mm deep socket?
2. A 8mm box end wrench?
3. A 6 inch 3/8" drive extension with a universal?
4. A tape measure?
The Answer? Number 4!
There are at least TWO Volvo metal fans, and the one I was about to
harvest this weekend was the wrong one. Thankfully, I had measured my
stock fan and the shroud on the Tiger.
The wrong one has 6 blades, and a diameter of about 17". This one was
mounted on a very small fluid clutch. I don't know Volvos that well,
and significant portions of this car were missing, but it could have
been a late 140 or maybe a 240, 4 cyl model.
Maybe all the right 140's in New England have already rusted away?
