Scott,
        Couple of questions, are you reading the oil pressure directly or
through a sending unit? If you are reading through a sending unit than
disconnect it and attach a direct reading guage. Maybe I missed it but did you
say what the idle pressure was? You said the lifters made noise, this was due
to them not having "pumped up ", did you pump them up manually prior to
installing them in the lifter bores? Check the gasket between the pump and the
block to see if it is intact and the pump is seated properly. Check the gear
tolerance in the pump, check the pick-up. Was this a total tear down and
rebuild or did you bolt on the parts to an existing short block? If you
rebulit this engine and used some good pre-assembly lube than you probably did
no damage if it only idled and for a short time only. Hope this helped.
