I run a SVO 302 with headers and with the re-cored XL radiator have no
problems. I think the size of the engine (260, 289, 302) is insignificant.
Where you run into problems is with overbores (thinner cylinder walls at the
water jackets), really hot cams, higher compression etc.
Tom Hall runs two electric fans, no mechanical fans on "Blue" and reports
success.
