Chris,
I used the same alternator that you have.  I can't remember which
but either the #1 or #2 lug is the power for the internal regulator.
I think that GM connects this lug to something called the horn relay?
I connected it to the main output (big lug).  The other is for the
charge light.  I managed to use the stock wires with no cutting
and the light seems to work correctly.

I think I connect the brown/yellow wire from the
generator to the light lug on the alternator.  Then disconnect
both big and small brown/yellow wires from the  Ford regulator
and connect the two together.  Your light should work.  If you have
interest I can get exactly what I did from my notes at home.
