There is no secret.  Cotter pin holds the plunger in the pedal.  There is a 
pivot pin in the top that goes through the support bracket.  Disconnect the 
plunger and then remove the pedal pivot pin.  If you can't get the pedal 
pivot pin out, you could try to remove the support bracket from the fire 
wall.  Should be pretty easy other than you have to stand on your head.
