Chris,
The installation of the gears is rather involved. You need a case spreader
to get them out/in (thats what those two round holes are for that are just
outside the rear cover), a gauge to measure pinion depth and after all that
you check the mesh pattern with a marking solution to see that it is proper.
If its not its kind of a guess as to how to alter it.
Since I have limited fund and seem to foolishly like adventure I will be
doing it myself. I have made myself a spreader out of some thick steel stock
I have, will use a depth mike and block spanned across the saddles for a
pinion depth gauge (compensating for the block of course) and pray I get it
right the first time.
As to the gear cost I have heard (but not seen) them being given away, but
the average is $50. There was a post of a guy (Ray McCrary) that had 13 sets
about a year ago, but I can't find him to contact him now. There was a guy
here in Calif. that had a set, but I never received a reply after he made
the offer. Finally, some in the southeast offered a set and if I can't find
any locally (I would like to see them first if I can) I wil probably try him
again. If you have the factory service manual the proceedure is listed. Tom
