Doug,

Yep, like Bob said, you've hosed your rod bolts.

The 40- to 45-ft-pound specification is for the HiPo 289, Boss 302, and 351W 
engines.

Little consolation, but you ARE lucky that you broke one before you installed 
and ran it.  You could have had a very dismal "break-in" experience!

I think you could get away with simply replacing all the rod bolts with new 
OEM-type bolts.  But if you go with aftermarket bolts, like ARP, you will 
need to resize the rods.

P.S.  ARP will recommend a substantially higher torque spec. for their bolts. 
 Or, ideally, they recommend using a stretch gauge to torque 'em all down to 
a specified amount of stretch.
