The duplicate gasket stumped me for a while once, but then when you look REALLY
close at your engine, one is for the carb to spacer and the other is for the
spacer to manifold.  AHA!  Two gaskets needed!

I think you're really going overboard on the vent there...The chances of enough
dirt entering that vent hole to cause problems in the bowl is miniscule. 
Autolites have been running on cars with that design for nearly 40 years with no
recalls to retrofit filters or baffles.  If I remember correctly, and if the 4
barrel Autolite in my garage is any indication of your carb, the vent hole faces
the rear, so the chances of anything getting in there to begin with are quite
remote.  You actually may be causing problems with the foam, as it eventually
will break down and get in the float bowl.
