After market and stock distributer rotors and caps!

I have found that Ford makes different distributors, that require
different rotors and caps. This is aside from the high energy blue ones.
The length of the rotor tips are slightly different.

After market manufacturer's quality of materials, especially the
insulating plastic, vary greatly. They also try to make a "one size fits
all" rotor. Obviously too long for some, too short for others. The
higher energy systems may loose a little, but hardly notice, but they
can arc, cause carbon particles to generate, and deposit on the cap.
This allows cross fire as some of the voltage is carried elswhere. Maybe
even to a wrong cylinder or ground.

Ford changed to a larger Blue exteender and cap with their high energy
system, to avoid cross-fire, etc, by moving the plug wires further
apart. This system can be put on the older distributor by buying the
collar extender, cap, rotor, and all new wires to fit the new cap ends.
Recommended if you are running high energy.

Now the Pertrinix wiht a hot coil, or the Pertronix II, with a hotter
coil, may not warrant such a change, or may be marginal on the Pertronix
II. The MSD 6-AL capacitive discharge system, or equivalent, can be used
with the Pertronix points replacer, and DEFINITELY have the energy to
require the high energy distributor mods, or even a new style
aftermarket high energy distributor.

You do NOT need a timing light to watch the "light show". Just run your
engine (garage door open) at night with the hood open and look inside.
Light show!
