Just a SWAG (Scientific Wild-Assed Guess), I'll bet it's just like a bar
of metal heated on one end. While the focus may not be as good, the
hotter areas will be brighter than the cooler areas, which should
register if it is sensitive enough at those frequencies to record at all.
Best thoughts of the day:
1) Set-up an illustrious panel of Academics and Specialists to research
the subject, and make complex calculations based upon known physical
principles. Appoint a renowned personage to chair the group. Issue the
preliminary findings in three years.
2) Take a camera and try it.
