I have been following with great interest the articles by Curtis Fisher and
Derek White adapting the 5 speed to their Tigers. Being ever the penny pincher
(which kind of rules out Curtis's setup) I am perticularly interested in
Derek's Getrag. I am looking for input from anyone regarding these and other
adaptations. There are bits and pieces all over the net, but the puzzle (for
me) is still not complete.

1. Can the 5 bolt 289 be used the Getrag setup (and is anyone familar with the
bellhousings Derek is refering to)? Given the likelyhood of it being nil to
find an Opel trans does anyone have thoughts regarding how to work around the
unfloating output shaft of the BMW trans? Derek has yet to illustrate the
Getrag fitting in the stock tunnel, does anyone familar with the Getrag size
"see" it fitting?

2. If one (say... me) is running a mild 289 (for street use) is it practical
to use the T-5. I have heard negative comments about this trans, but don't
recall any spacific reason given. It seems some (especially the 91-94
Mustangs) are rated to 300 ft-lb's. Does anyone know if the T-5 will fit in
the stock tunnel?

3. More up my ally is the stock Toploader and a gear change. However, even
this gets rather pricey (at least for me - the gearsets -standard wide ratio-
run about $600-$700 new). I have investigated and found that the gearset from
a 77-78 Ford Granada (a real Pick A Part car) had the following "overdrive"
gears that fit the Tiger case:
 1st 3.29, 2nd 1.84, 3rd 1.00, 4th .81. Any comments on these ratios and the
Tiger (with 2.88 gears likely 195-60 13's tires). If you know any other Pick A
Part available trans with gearsets that will work in The Tiger case please let
me know. I am trying to (economically) get away from the close ratio gearset.
Yet I am finding that just about every option limited to my budget has a big
"YEA, BUT" attached to it.
Thanks, Tom Witt B9470101
