Tom and Jeff,

I concur with Tom on almost everything. I would consider the 289
Performer RPM high rise, over the low rise Performer, as it is nearly
identical to the F4B dimensions and will fit under the stock hood with a
stock air cleaner.

I am using the Holley 465 CFM carb that came with the LAT option, and it
is very strong and no bogs as in overcarburation. Holley still makes
them, and Rick may still carry them.

On ANY US intake manifold, the water temp sender hole is a pipe thread,
and no insert or filler will be satisfactory to fit the Lucas sender
properly. You will need to have that hole tapered for access, then
heli-arc filled with aluminum. Not a big deal. Then the proper thread
(5/8-18 UNF, as I recall) can be tapped and you have what LAT/Edelbrock
supplied for the Tiger.

If you use the 465 Holley, it is a design that does NOT include a PCV
tube for the PCV valve. My expensive solution was to change the base to
a 600 CFM universal. $$$$. The CORRECT solution is to drill and tap an
unused Edelbrock intake runner boss at the front for a fitting with a
hose connection to the PCV valve. Again, this is what was done by
Edelbrock for Tiger applications. All this stuff is done off the car, of
course, and thoroughly cleaned of machine chips.

I am sure you have all heard my recommendations on leaving that 2.88
gear set in place and putting the Ford wide ratio gear set in your box,
as in the Mk II. The change will blow your socks off at the stop light,
and works just fine throughout the range - if you don't mind some rubber
squealing under acceleration in the first three gears. Care MUST be
taken to use the same stock plastic internal speedo drive gear if you
want your speedo, and odo to read correctly. Ford made a few different
ones. You can get a later model case with wide ratio gears, and use
your main shaft, tail stock, and nose bearing retainer. This fits your 5
bolt, and allows you to fit a later 6 bolt with the only change being to
put back that slightly larger new external bearing retainer you removed.
