Gentlemen and Ladies:

Neither I, nor as I am sure the others writing about their black coated rings,
are making a mistake about the nature of the coating. It is a "coated" ring.
It is not painted. It did not have transfer from another rubber or plastic
part nearby. It is coated. There have now been five people who have the same
thing in their car, and this transcends coincidence. It is a construction
attribute of at least some Tigers.

As to the transfer theory, this is clearly impossible. The bottom of the
shifter boot tucks below the carpet with the rubber coating on its metal ring
pressed firmly to the tunnel. Above that ring sits the carpet, and above the
carpet sits the fininshing ring. For transference to occur, the rubber would
have to migrate through the carpet. Moreover, those writing about the coating
regularly refer to a "plastic" coating. The shift boot is rubber. Lastly, the
coating is uniform, and this would not occur on transference.

Thank you.
