All questions and answers are from Thoroughbred & Classic Cars, Feb. 1983
Interview with Ian Garrad.

Most of you Tiger fans probably know that Carroll Shelby built the prototype.
Some may know that he was paid a commision on each Tiger built. Knowing that
fact, the question is: What was the amount paid per Tiger to Mr. Shelby?

Mr. Shelby was paid $5.00 per car. The article said 7,067 cars were made, so
Shelby got $35,335 for his effort. Ian Garrad said three time F1 world
champion Jack Brabham first proposed installing a v8 in an Alpine after
finishing third with Stirling Moss in a race at Riverside.

Bill Carroll bought the Shelby prototype TIger and still owns it (although he
is accepting offers). What well known Tiger personality made an offer before
Bill Carroll bought the Shelby car? Any idea how much he offered?

Ian Garrad saw the Shelby prototype at a used car lot for $3000 in 1978. He
called and offered $2600 but had to leave on a business trip and missed buying
the car. Instead, it
was sold to Bill Carroll.

What famous actor and singer bought a Tiger?

According to Ian Garrad, 'The chairman of the board', Frank Sinatra bought
one and gave it to a friend.

What business did Ian Garrad go into after leaving Rootes/Chrysler?

After accepting a buyout from Chrysler in 1968, he became president of
Space-O-Matic. The company sold a two-tier storage system for car parking.

And now you know, the rest of the story.
