What a coincidence Mr Waybright mentioned newsletters.
I just got back from the Tahoe United this morning (a little family
emergency forced me to return a week early), where I talked with another
TEAE member about the club's newsletter.
Producing one is a tough job that you have to reinvent each month, and
the editors who help the clubs in this way are saints. As Stephen said,
the current C.A.T Tiger Tales is the high water mark, and they already
have a super active membership like STOA in addition to the newsletters.
Speaking as the bicoastal Tiger owner that I am, Stephen is correct when
he says that a different political bent might prevent a national printed
Tiger newsletter from being a reality.
The principal difference is that the eight hours a day that
midwesterners and East Coast folk use for sleep, the Californians call
that "garage time". I know these left coast folks have families and day
jobs, but it's sure hard to tell when you're around them.The closest
person the East Coast Tiger clan has to a California Tiger owner is
Larry Paulick.Come to think of, Larry, are you sure?...oh just a thought.
Speaking of the Tahoe United, as Stephen surmised, it was an absolute
blast. 60+ Tiger owners, 40+ Tigers, the Harrington Tiger, Rob and Jen
Guerras' Rotary Alpine, an awesome Alpine III Gran Turismo in taxi
yellow with red interior and red cloth covered hardtop(looked a whole
lot better than the description.) Oh, and it had a neatly installed A/C
system and automatic.
Did I mention a very accommodating Carroll Shelby, George Boskoff, and
John Morton (ex Shelby pilot and Datsun/BRE 510/240Z flyer) as guests
for dinner one night. Carroll and George both showed up the next day at
the concours for autographs(cars, event posters, glove box doors,
console doors, air cleaners, Book of Norman's, factory lit, etc.).
The cars ranged from Terry Taylors fully LAT'd Balmoral gray car to
Jerry and Marlena VanderPool's candy apple red /tan interior Tiger and
Rob Guerra's dark blue recent restoration Tiger. Like most Uniteds, it
was great to see so many daily drivers brought up to the lake in
original condition, the "never mind do she shine, do she go?" aspect
that really adds to these events.
Finally, Max Pahmeier, the SUNI organizer, said it looks good that we
will have a SUNI IV event next Summer around the 4th somewhere in the
Salt Lake City region. He was leaving Lake Tahoe to travel north to do
more work on that.
