Dear JX and everyone else:

Thanks so much for the advice and information.  That's not to say that I am any 
closer to a solution or resolution.  Still, the ideas and configurations are 
enlightening as well as the history.

I am convinced, nonetheless, that from an aesthetic perspective the lower vents 
are the handsomest, and the car would have been better for the look from the 
onset.
