There will probably be numerous comments in this vein, but 'gasoline' that
you buy from the pumps has a number of additives in it, from octane boosters
(which are typically not alkanes) to preservatives (to keep the octane
boosters from deteriorating quickly), and it's those compounds that can
quickly destroy rubber parts and corrode aluminum components.
I had a fuel cell filled with foam in my race car and the foam was OK on a
mix of pump gas, aviation fuel, and toluene, but running 85% methanol (with
the remainder being pump gas)caused the foam to turn to crumbs as well as
oxidizing the aluminum intake manifold and the head.
The additives in pump gas don't approach the corrosive power of 85%
methanol, but they do accelerate the deterioration of the rubber and plastic
parts in the fuel system.

I have tank sealer in the tanks of my Tiger and it is still in good
condition after 20 years but I only use gasoline in them.
