I had exactly that problem with my Tiger. I got a small "whoosh"
whenever I opened the cap after a drive. It is not normal for the tanks
to be highly pressurized. I had an extra fuel filler cap that I took
apart to see how things worked. As was mentioned elsewhere, there is a
pressure relief hole there. You can't get to it (as far as I could
figure) with the cap assembled, because it's located toward the outside,
covered by the chrome filler cap cover. When I took my cap apart (I
drilled out those four rivits you see with the cap open....Be very
careful or you'll drill through the cap), the little pin hole that's
supposed to allow presurrized air out of the cap, and the tanks, was
corroded over. I cleaned that out, re-assembled the cap (I used small
screws to re-attach the parts) and now it works as advertised; no
pressure release when I open the cap to re-fuel.
I started messing with that to try to figure where the fuel/exhaust
smell is coming from the trunk and into the passenger compartment. The
cap fix didn't help that.
