body?"

Tim,
To me it depends upon the condition of the car and your ultimate goal. There
are advantages and disadvantages to everything you do.

How much rust and bodywork is on your car?

What I am doing is a "rolling" restoration on my car...drive it (in theory)
while I work on it.

The background on the car is that it was stripped to bare metal then
restored 15 years ago. I had a fire that damaged the engine compartment, all
of the interior and a bit of the exterior so I am starting again...with the
car completely pulled apart.

The good news is the car only had 3K miles on it since the restoration so
most of the bodywork is still great other than A few trouble spots.

I stripped the engine & interior compartment by hand with chemicals and
finished it off by hand sanding with a foam block.

On the body I plan on using a DA (Dual Action) Sander with 80 grit
paper...and the jams by hand (paddles, blocks & sponges). I don't have a
rust issue so I plan on keeping whatever filler remains and just going over
it.

I have a spare trunk lid that I want to french the license plate area in, I
will probably have that blasted this winter by someone other than
myself...to keep my project rolling.

My trouble spots were caused by the body filler not having any metal behind
it so moisture got in and caused bubbling. All of the filler was removed, I
hammered the low spots up and the small holes were welded up...with a bit of
filler redone over my repairs. You should never use just body filler to fill
in holes...body filler works great when it's completely sealed in.

And actually I am ready to begin my final assault for painting the engine
compartment. I sprayed part of the firewall with LizardSkin Ceramic
Insulation in July...just need a final clean-up, seal everything up, then
spray away.

Now if only it would stop raining.

Paul
