If I remember correctly, I screwd the chrome bottom piece as far down on the 
handle as possible so that I would get the greatest amount of thread 
engagement inside the shift knob, then experimented with positioning the 
chrome bottom piece such that when I screwed the top black piece down, it 
would be tight when the shift pattern was positioned properly.
