Granted this is a poor substitute robert, but I might suggest you got to
"youtube" and type in muffler brand names....and if you can find a car with
a small block ford you might get a pretty good feel for the sound...at least
tone and rasp...some have annoying poppy sounds....you might be able to
avoid that at least.

The Walker Dynomax has the best performance among the quieter mufflers 
according to most magazine tests. The few that outperform it are much 
louder.
