Thank you for your update =E2=80=93 still good information.

=20

The basics with the Ford shifter is that it can be a little weak.

Seems to me when I worked my shifter; I inspected all the parts for =
straightness, rough edges and wear =E2=80=93 repaired as required

Keeping all the working parts parallel is important

If using 2 spring washers for added spring force or adding an extra =
washer or shim keeps everything parallel then do that

I remember stretching the big main spring on the shifter some to =
increase the spring force =E2=80=93 an extra washer or shim there would =
do the same

Lube the working parts

=20

Install shifter and follow the alignment procedure =E2=80=93 I think I =
went through this procedure twice =E2=80=93 1st time to set everything =
in place then rowed through the gears a couple of times then the 2nd =
alignment procedure =E2=80=93 I think there was a slight offset which I =
corrected and all was well

=20

Some linkage parts are available =E2=80=93 C5ZZ-7285RPK =E2=80=93 the =
parts that attach the shift rod to the shifter levers

I=E2=80=99m thinking the kit you used had more parts.

If there were any instructions =E2=80=93 please share them with =
everyone.

=20

The gearshift lever has trunnion set =E2=80=93 2 steel plugs and 2 =
springs =E2=80=93 I stretched these 2 springs=20

did it 5-6 years ago before my stroke so a bit fuzzy....it was a kit =
either from kee or toploader heaven....there are wave type washers i =
think that give a bit of extra spring....ie to help going from 2 to 3 we =
shimmed the linkage with one or two extra...now if i push shifter out of =
2 it goes right to 3 with basically no help just push it in gear...kit =
had all new bushings, and we made sure every thing was aligned =
right...i'll see if i can find the old box in the garage

it was toploader heaven....seems to be out of business now....sorry

Phastphill

I looked through David Kee=E2=80=99s catalog and I do =
not see any linkage kits, I only see shifters. May be I missed the =
parts you speak of.

=20

Do you have a part # for the kit you used?

Is it still listed in the David Kee catalog or do you have to ask for =
the kit you used?

Do you have more description of what you did to the stock shift linkage?

=20

Thanks=20

i rebuilt my linkage with a kit from david kee...and a couple of extra =

Russ,

=20

Ron is right. I had the same problem when my Tiger was factory new. I =
remember sitting at an intersection and trying to get into 1st gear. =
Finally put it back into reverse and then back out and all was well. =
Follow everybody's advice about linkage alignment, but I think that the =
problem will never completely go away - it's the nature of the beast.

Russ

I believe I=E2=80=99ve been there and sometimes still =
happens.

The linkage is stuck in reverse gear position. If you put it back into =
reverse and carefully pull it out of reverse it should be OK. I found =
that worked after getting under the Tiger a couple times to get it in a =
forward gear which is no fun at all.

=20

I believe this problem is all in the shifter mechanism.

=20

I=E2=80=99m not exactly sure how I reduced this occurrence, it was 20 =
years ago, but here is a go at it.

I believe I took the shifter mechanism out =E2=80=93 cleaned it =
=E2=80=93 inspected it - lubed it and I stretched the spring a little.

I also replaced the trunnion on the shifter.

Assemble the shifter =E2=80=93 check and adjust the shifter linkage as =
required.

=20

That worked for me =E2=80=93 only once in a great while does the shifter =
hang up now.

=20

Hope this helps with your problem

After my recent engine rebuild I am having trouble with the tranny =
getting stuck in two gears. Not good. It occurs when trying to go =
forward after putting it in reverse It won't go into any forward gear. =
Did I perhaps bend something getting it back into the tunnel on =
replacing the motor? I didn't do anything to the tranny when out of =
the car. I did clean it up and repaint before re-entry. It was =
suggested that I cleaned it too good and it needed to be relubed on the =
rods and levers. That did seem to help but it still gets stuck on =
occasion and I can release it by putting it back into reverse. That is =
the good news. I had to get under the car and hit the lever before to =
pop it out of gear. The levers all line up where they should be under =
the shifter. Fluid level is good. Is the fluid correct( valvoline gear =
oil--high performance 80-90w )? Any suggestions would be appreciated. =
