I would like to thank everyone who responded to my request for information=
about engine tag stamping.=C2=A0 As others have pointed out, there are man=
y inexpensive stamping kits available, but the problem seems to be finding =
a kit with the right font and a hyphen stamp.=C2=A0 Even if I had such a ki=
t, I'm sure it requires practice to make the stamping look professional.
I even visited a typewriter repair store to ask for help, but the owner cou=
ldn't match the font, and in any case he did not think a typewriter key wou=
ld strike with tag sufficient force to stamp the metal.
In the end I gave up on trying to duplicate the engine tag by myself.=C2=A0=
A member of the Tiger list sent me a glowing recommendation for Larry Atki=
sson, who charges $50 for the job.=C2=A0 I just sent him my blank plate, so=
I have not yet personally seen his work.=C2=A0 You can contact him at catk=
isson@aol.com.

I have a set of 1/8=E2=80=9D steel stamps, probably from Harbor Freight mad=
e in China, which are about the correct size.

Some of the stamps look similar to the original but not all of them.

0 - is not open enough

1 - does have a flag

2 =E2=80=93 is not open enough

3,5,6,9 =E2=80=93 are not open enough

The same goes for the letters; some look close others are too tight.

 =C2=A0

The Calibri font this email I=E2=80=99m typing with is similar to the origi=
nal but I have not examined this font closely enough.

 =C2=A0

I have not explored the Font the Cleveland Foundry may have used on these d=
ecals.=C2=A0=C2=A0 Ford Corporate seemed to like Franklin font.

I=E2=80=99m of the opinion the Cleveland Foundry stamped and applied the va=
lve cover decal.=C2=A0=C2=A0 It was part of their Export engine process and=
 accounting process.

 =C2=A0

It would seem to me there is a typewriter somewhere that has the correct fo=
nt.

I believe the Cleveland Foundry used something like a typewriter for this b=
ut the decals were most likely on a ribbon for production purposes.

 =C2=A0

It might be necessary to have stamps laser cut to precisely match the origi=
nal font style, size and strike depth.

 =C2=A0

As you may recall, my Tiger came to me minus the VIN tag. (Eventually TAC'e=
d at the 2010 TE/AE Annual Event in Rockland, Me.)=C2=A0 No doubt it is run=
ning around Mass. attached to an Alger with incorrect rivets.

 =C2=A0

Ever since, I have been searching the Globe for the correct font type and s=
ize, to=C2=A0 no avail. To complicate matters, having found and studied man=
y many B382XXX VIN plates, it is clear there was more than one set of fonts=
used, often on the same VIN plate.

 =C2=A0

It also appears that the font stamp styles may have been unique to the U.K.=
, because of all the vintage stamps I have found on the internet from North=
America, none are close to those used to stamp our Tiger VIN' and JAL Plat=
es.

 =C2=A0

If the engine plates were stamped in U.S. or Canada, the chances of finding=
the correct fonts should be much better.=C2=A0

 =C2=A0

If anyone ever comes uo with a set, I am sure I am not the only one who wou=

 =C2=A0

The big question here is about the original Font for this decal.

=C2=A0

What style Font?

What size Font?

=C2=A0

I have no expertise in this field so no help there.

=C2=A0

It would be nice if someone can identify the original Font or a Font that i=
s very similar.

=C2=A0

It is very possible that is just a typical machinist=E2=80=99s stamp set so=
mething the Cleveland Foundry normally stocked. =C2=A0
