All,
        Many thanks to those who responded when I said that
dash refinishing was a daughting prosepect! Thanks to Bill M.,
John Suchak, Dan Masters, Chet Jester, Art Kelly, Greg Wolf,
Tom O'Malley, Barry Schwartz and The Roadster Factory for
their tips and encouragement.

        As it turns out, I did not see their messages until
Monday morning.  Over the weekend, I followed the tip in "6-Tech";
with a 3/4" chisel, I carefully chipped away at the plastic covering.
It took 2.5 hours, but I removed all the plastic without damaging
the veneer. A light sanding was all it needed to take out some of
the "bruises" left by my 4-thumbed chiseling. The veneer is pretty
dry, so it will need some sort of oil, or maybe even a stain. I'm
going back through the past 2 years of triumphs@autox.team.net email
looking at what other people have done here. "6-Tech" suggests
"Fabulon" to clear-cote it. I'll let you all know what I find, and
how it turns out!

        Thanks everyone! What a great group!
