I am re-assembling/rebuilding my TR6. No matter what adjustments I make,
I cannot get the doors to close tightly. Either with or without door
weatherstripping, or in what position I place the striker plate (on the B
post) the doors always have movement in them where the door latch fits
into the striker plate. Once in awhile I seem to get the doors to fit
securely, but with a little force, they 'spring' out again.
I know the doors have a two stage closing (sort of a safety catch idea),
but even when mine are on the second stage, there is about .5 inch
movement horizontally (i.e., they can be pulled open that much without
touching the door handle).
Would it be wear in the striker and latch, or am I missing something
here? How about a twisted door frame? Except that both doors act the
same. I replaced one B post completely, and the back panel of the
other. I don't think the B posts are out of alighment, as all mating
panels fit well.
When I detach the striker from the B post, and mate it to the door latch,
the movement is not as much.
The doors do not seem to be binding anywhere.
Is there supposed to be some type of rubber buffer that fits in the door
striker?
Unfortunately, as I drove the car just a little before this
restoration/repair, I cannot remember how well the doors fit before.
Any help would be appreciated. Fitting this body back together has been
quite an interesting undertaking.
I would like to drive this car before the snow falls.
