Gary:

I have my spin-on angled toward the front of the car, away from the slave
cylinder.  The filter is close to the slave, but doesn't create any of the
clearance problems you're experiencing.  This may also be a function of the
filter that you use... it may be of a larger diameter than the number that
I use.  I use Purolator PER-64, which is roughly (I'm not looking at it
right now) the same diameter as the boss on the adapter that the filter
mates to.  Maybe a little larger.
