  That's probably likely actually. There doesn't
seem to be any giant development fund behind the
MGF, so expect to see it stay mostly as is
for a while.

  In the meantime, they might push a "Triumph" that
would have a couple more years of development and
be better in a lot of ways.

  Then it would rot without development, and the next
MG would, as you say, piss all over it.

  Only one of them is going to see development at
any one time, so expect one to be always a bit ahead
of the other.
