You need to check if your coil is properly wired. During normal running
conditions, the coil supply voltage goes through a resistor (funny
braided wire) to supply less than 12 volts. However, in later TR6's,
there is a relay that provides 12 volts at startup. (Normal car
engineering).

With aftermarket coils, some need 12 volts all the time.

The the relay that provides the 12 volts at startup is under the horn
relay.

Subject: Plug gaps w/Lucas Sport Coil

Listers,

I recently saw a post here about the spark plug gap with a Lucas Sport
Coil. If I remember correctly, it said that by setting the gap at .035"
instead of .025", the car fired right up when cold.

I have a Lucas Sport Coil on my TR6 and with the colder weather, the car
has been starting hard when cold. After it starts, it runs great and
starts fine when warm. I just put new plugs in at .025".

Can someone confirm that I have the facts straight and recommend whether
or not I should try the wider gap?

Thanks,
Bill S.
