James,
I did in fact consider that possibility, but after checking availability, I
found that most of the Rolls Merlin and Griffin engines were gobbled up by
Hydroplane owners in the 60's, 70's and 80's. They became so difficult to
get that the Unlimited class was (forced) to abandon those piston engines
in favor of Helicopter sourced Turbine engines. Recently only a few boats
are still running the old V-12's and they are no longer competitive.

But it was good while it lasted!

P.S. My dreams of having an engine bigger than my car settled down to
having a 1500 engine built up to increased performance. (Still sort of
original)
