First, I would like to say tahnks to everyone who responded to my note
about brakes and shimmy problem on my 78 spit. I attempted to adjust the
rear brakes out as many suggested, to no avail. I put a kit in the
master cyl., also to no avail. I finally took the master cyl. to a shop
and had them hoan it. The brakes are holding fine now at an accetable
pedal distance from the floorboard. As for the shimmy, it's still there.
Having checked and reworked everything else, i'm almost certain it's the
tires, or maybe just one of the tires. I did have the front wheel
bearings properly placed along with all the other attempts, so like i
said, i think it's the tires or wheels. BTW, i didn't really say much
about how long i've had the car or where it came from. I obtained it
from an individual who claimed it was a daily driver last February in
Austin Tex. It had a current inspection sticker, but i have my doubts as
to it having been legally placed on the car. When i got the car, it came
with a box of new and used parts including ball joints, brake rotors and
a steering wheel signal assembly. This brings me to my current problem.
I removed the old signal assemly and replaced it with the working one.
Now, the horn, blinkers, and windshield wipers work fine, but after the
replacement, the speedometer and tach lights will not come on. Is this a
coincidence? or is there some correlation here? Any suggestions will
again be very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
